Fans of the 1974 cult classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre are in for a treat with Sumo Digital's video game adaptation of the same name. The game revolves around Ana and her college friends who travel to Austin, Texas in search of her missing sister. Captured by the cannibalistic Sawyer family, the group must escape.

There's a unique level of fear from trying to run and hide from something you know is stronger than you. It's a fear that this game evokes fantastically. If you love survival horror or the gameplay mechanics of an asymmetrical game like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, then here is a list of other games that are similar in style and gameplay.

Hunt: Showdown is an FPS survival horror game by Crytek. It takes place in an alternate history of the 1890s, where a horrific force has resulted in a plague turning people into ghastly mutations. As a bounty hunter, you must use your wits to survive and hunt down strange monsters.

If you enjoy the locale of rural Texas, this game is set in a similar rustic environment within the wilderness of Stillwater Bayou. The abandoned cabins and monsters scattered in the environment are reminiscent of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

This popular drama horror game by Supermassive Games is one that all lovers of survival horrors should play. The use of the Butterfly Effect changed the genre as the endings and fates of the characters all depended on the choices you made.

In the cold and haunted Canadian Rockies, you assume the control of eight young adults as their lives are endangered by the presence of something otherworldly. Similar to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Until Dawn is centered around a group of friends. At one point, you even find yourself being chased by a chainsaw-wielding killer.

If the main aspect of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre that you love is being able to wield a chainsaw, then this 2012 Japanese hack-and-slash game may be for you. Developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, in the Lollipop Chainsaw, you play as Juliet as she fights through hordes of zombies.

This absurd game is a fun and thrilling one. While it is not quite survival horror, with bright and colorful graphics, the game utilizes different chainsaw mechanics with special moves like Chainsaw Dash and Chainsaw Blaster.

Another asymmetrical game, Identity V is a free 1v4 multiplayer horror mobile game that can also be played on the PC. Developed by the Chinese company NetEase, you either play the role of a Hunter or a Survivor in this gothic-style horror.

The Hunter must pursue the Survivors through rocket chairs while the Survivors collaborate to open the exit gates by solving puzzles and deciphering the codes. With a similar gameplay to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, this is an extremely fun and thrilling game to play with friends.

A rather unlikely entry in this list is Hazelight Studios' It Takes Two. This favored game is popular for a reason, as anyone can play it. Though it may not be horror, the gameplay is perfect for those who love asymmetrical games.

The co-op game centers around a divorcing couple, Cody and May, who turn into their daughter's figurines and must work collaboratively to return to normal. This two-player game won Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2021 and is definitely a game worth playing for its clever asymmetrical puzzles.

An oldie but goldie, Left 4 Dead 2 is an FPS survival game by Valve and is still re-playable over a decade later. In the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse, four Survivors must fight their way through hordes of various Infected to reach the desired destination. With five campaigns, you must navigate treacherous terrains and fend off zombies to reach safe houses until the campaign's finale.

If you like the survival and asymmetrical aspect (when two teams experience the same game through different gameplay mechanics) of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, then you can play Versus mode in this game with your friends. Two teams of four players take turns as the Survivors and Infected compete with each other for the most points.

This asymmetric espionage game deals more with the art of subtlety of human behavior and social cues. Developed by Chris Hecker, a spy must accomplish their mission at a fancy party while a sniper loaded with a single bullet tries to figure out who the spy is.

The Capcom cult classic first made for the GameCube in 2005, Resident Evil 4, is one you have to play if you like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Re-imagined in 2023, the remake revitalizes the original game with cleaner graphics and a longer run time while still honoring the horrors of the 2005 version.

Though it may not be asymmetrical, this third-person game has the beloved Leon Kennedy as the playable character. Arriving in rural Spain to rescue the U.S. President's kidnapped daughter, Leon is met by an infected religious cult and a hidden conspiracy he must discover. Last but certainly not least is the Canadian online asymmetric survival horror game by Behaviour Interactive. Dead By Daylight is a 1v4 game where one player assumes the role of a Killer while the remaining four are Survivors. Working together, the Survivors must fix the fix generators to open the exit and escape while the Killer pursues them.

The Killer's objective is to impale each Survivor on sacrificial hooks in order to appease the malevolent force known as the Entity. If you loved The Texas Chain Saw Massacre's eerie setting and the adrenaline of being chased by a killer, then this game is one you will love playing either online with strangers or with friends.
