GARDENING experts have offered helpful tips to keep your hedges looking pristine all summer long.

They shared a simple trick that prevents wonky hedges and all you need are two cheap products.

In the summer, the weather often switches between bright sunshine and bursts of heavy rain.

So, it comes as no surprise that hedges and outdoor gardens show impressive growth around this time of year, but nobody wants a wonky hedge.

Experts at Gtech have shared helpful tips on how to trim a hedge with perfect precision.

While it may seem daunting, maintaining a hedge is fairly straightforward with minimal tool investment.

There are two affordable items that you can use to keep your hedge at the right height.

A good pair of hand shears will help you to trim the smaller untidy shrubs and branches within your hedge.

When it comes to electrical tools, Gtech experts recommend a lightweight hedge trimmer.

This will ensure that you can easily reach the top of the hedge and that you can cut in wide sweeping motions without your arms getting tired.

Above all, make sure whatever tools you using are sharp and well-lubricated, because a dull blade will not only leave a frayed finish to your hedge but can also be dangerous to use.

In addition, it's important to know how to mark the desired shape of your hedge before you begin trimming.

A top tip is to put wooden stakes into the ground and attach a piece of string to them about a centimeter below your desired height.

Then, simply take your hedge trimmer and cut above that line, keeping the blade parallel.

The experts also suggested leaving the bottom of the hedge slightly wider than the top to give it a fuller look.

In the end, don't forget to regularly water and add some compost or fertilizers to the soil underneath your hedge.

This encourages new growth in a healthy way.
