NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. — Our friends at the Crow Road Halloween House, Drachenmoor, have commissioned a wood carving chainsaw artist to create something magical from a dead black jack oak tree in their parking lot!
The artist, Jason Morton, of Eagle Ridge Chainsaw Carvings, based in Strafford, Mo. area.
“The carver will be there all week (after 10am-5ish) if you want to watch a competition carver in action. If you happen to stop in during the day and take pics, please share!”
— Drachenmoor
Their parking lot is to the west of Crow and McClelland on the north side. Click here for exact location.
Morton tells KOAM's Shannon Becker he's been doing this professionally for 14 years. You might have seen him in appearances at artisan shows in Fair Grove, Shepherd of the Hills or War Eagle.
You can see some of his amazing work on their facebook page. Click here to Eagle Ridge Chainsaw Carvings.
He says normally they carve bears, eagles, Americana things. But he's up to the challenge of some dragons!
Morton said the design will be a mother dragon and her baby dragons in the end. Right now the first head is only formed.
